Trials

May 25, 2015

Lautaro was confirmed. We asked him after how he felt when he got baptized and all that and he said he felt like he was with Jesus.

In my blessing when I was set apart it says "you will see miracles. you will see the power of God manifest". It happened this week. Soledad (18) is an investigator that went to church once. but she didn´t really have a good experience and when we went back to see her the next day she was in a fight with her cousin and she had a lot of attitude and tried to give us the Book of Mormon back and said she didn´t want to keep going with this. We thought well, maybe she needs some time. so we went back the next day to see if things were more calm. but no. she didn´t want to talk to us. We asked her some questions she just responded "no" and "i don´t know". We weren´t getting anywhere. People have their agency, and if they don´t want to open their hearts there is no way the Spirit can testify to them and there is nothing we can do about that. But I felt the spirit so strongly the first day I met her, and I couldn´t leave her like this. I remembered that phrase of my blessing, and I prayed so hard in my heart that this could be one of those miracle moments. and we just told her how much we loved her and how we felt when we met her. She started to say that ever since we had been visiting her things didn´t get better in her family, and it seemed that there were even more problems. We told her that that´s normal and Satan throws everything he´s got when people are about to make a good decision. I love Alma 12:6 that says all this was a trap of the adversary! Then Soledad started to change. She said "well, if its like that we will keep going" I COULDN´T BELIEVE IT!!!!

The next day we brought the talk from Elder Holland of this conference. that sometimes we think "people don´t change, these ideals don´t exist, you can´t...." It was great. she said it was very true that we need to overcome the challenges. AND THEN Saturday morning her uncle was murdered. He was driving a truck making deliveries and some people followed him and tried to rob him and when he resisted they killed him. and I thought, I have never seen anyone with so much opposition. We went to visit her and she said she didn´t feel like talking, but we just reminded her that opposition exists, and we asked her if she felt the gospel was a goood thing, and she said yes. that she prayed to know if it was true and felt something.

ahhhh. the poor people. The inflation is so bad here. the economy is horrible. no one has work, the bus prices doubled. some people eat bread and drink tea and thats all they have.

We also did divisions with some hermanas that are having problems. but it went really well, and its so nice to feel like things get solved.

But here are some scriptures that I loved this week:

D&C 105:14
For behold, I do not require at their hands to fight the battles of Zion; for, as I said in a former commandment, even so will I fulfil—I will fight your battles.

2 Nephi 8:
For the Lord shall comfort Zion, he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving and the voice of melody.

Helaman 6:3
Nevertheless, the people of the church did have great joy because of the conversion of the Lamanites, yea, because of the church of God, which had been established among them. And they did fellowship one with another, and did rejoice one with another, and did have great joy.
